| Under direction, performs confidential and highly responsible secretarial support work for the Board of Education and Board staff. Provides primary secretarial support for the meetings of the Board of Education. Work consists of attending Board meetings/hearings, preparing and indexing official minutes of meetings, maintaining records, preparing correspondence, responding to public inquiries, and related secretarial and office support services. Work requires good judgment and tact in dealing with confidential and controversial matters. |
| Considerable knowledge of business English, spelling, general vocabulary, and arithmetic; considerable knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment; considerable knowledge of the general organization and functions of the major units of MCPS. Ability to keep complex records, assemble and organize data and prepare reports from such records. Ability to compose memoranda and letters from general instructions. Ability to carry out continuing assignments on own initiative. Skilled in the proficient operation of desktop computers including telecommunications and electronic mail. Demonstrated writing and proofreading skills-including ability to compose and edit correspondence. Good oral and written communications and human relations skills. |
| Graduation from high school and considerable progressively responsible experience in the secretarial field, preferably with MCPS or another school system. Completion of some college work desirable. Other combinations of applicable education, training and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered. |

- Provides primary secretarial support work for the meetings/hearings of the Board of Education. Develops and disseminates Board calendar.
- Prepares and distributes meeting notices and agendas. Types Board resolutions, as directed. Arranges for sound and video taping of Board meetings and hearings.
- Prepares and indexes official Board meeting minutes.
- Develops the list of meeting follow-up actions and new business items. Maintains all official records of the Board.
- Responds to inquires from the public regarding Board meetings and actions.
- Provides primary support work for all appeal matters before the Board
- Performs related work as required.
