MCPS is committed to providing an aligned, high quality curriculum from prekindergarten through twelfth grade. This effort is designed to ensure that all students in every school receive the proper foundation and sequence of essential skills and knowledge that will prepare them for success in the next grade. Ultimately, the school system’s objective is to prepare all students to be successful after high school—in college, other post-secondary studies, or career in the world of work. To achieve this goal, Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) strives to prepare students to achieve reading fluency by Grade 3, acceleration in math demonstrated by successful completion of Math A in Grade 5, completion in Algebra by the end of Grade 8, and enrollment in Honors and Advanced Placement courses in middle and high school.
