Ethics Panel

Appointments to the Board's Ethics Panel are for three years, and applicants must be Montgomery County residents. Members serve without compensation.

Among the panel's responsibilities are:

  1. interpreting the Board of Education's Ethics Policy and issuing advisory opinions concerning its application;
  2. conducting hearings on any complaint filed regarding an alleged violation;
  3. approving financial disclosure forms; and
  4. directing the implementation of an educational program to inform school system employees and the public about the policy.

Panel members may not be incumbent members of the Board of Education, school officials, employees, or persons employed by a business entity subject to the authority of the Board of Education, or spouses of such persons.

Family Life and Human Development Advisory Committee

Appointments are for two years for adults and one year (July through June) for students. Members serve without compensation.

The 15-member committee works to review draft revisions or additions to the curriculum on family life and human development developed by the educators and the materials of instruction evaluated by education staff and provide its comments and recommendations on the curriculum and on the instructional materials to the superintendent and, through the superintendent, to the Board of Education, in a final report.

The Family Life and Human Development Advisory Committee is governed by resolutions adopted by the Board of Education on July 27, 2005.

Collaboration Board for Career and Technology Education

Adult appointments are upon nomination of each of eleven career cluster advisory boards. Two student members are nominated by the superintendent and Montgomery College president, respectively.

The 13-member committee advises the Board of Education and the Board of Trustees of Montgomery College on: (1) the distribution of career and technical education funds; (2) county career and technology education program accountability reports; (3) county job needs; and (4) the adequacy of career and technology education programs.

Advisory Committee

The committee, composed of between 15 and 20 members, is to include at least 8 to 10 community members and parents of MCPS students with special education needs, 5 school-based staff, 4 central office administrators, 2 MCPS students, and 1 representative from higher education. The Board will endeavor to appoint advisory committees balanced by geographic area, race, ethnicity, gender, and a range of viewpoints. Members are expected to attend committee meetings. Any member who is absent from 25 percent or more of the scheduled meetings during any one-year period will be considered resigned from membership, unless waived for good cause. This committee was established for a term expected not to extend beyond June 30, 2009.
