Elementary Reading Language Arts
Instructional Guides

The instructional guide provides a comprehensive view of the instructional program for a specific grade level. The guide includes model sample lessons with a suggested plan for delivering an identified cluster of indicators. The lesson sequence includes:

  • Enduring Understandings
  • Essential Questions
  • Indicators
  • Checking for Understanding

The lesson delivery is sequenced into before reading, during reading, and after reading sections. Whole group and small group instruction is modeled. Daily small group instruction is expected. The small group instruction provides opportunities for students to apply what has been taught. It is also an opportunity for teachers to re-teach skills as needed. Reading and writing lessons are interrelated and should be taught in an integrated fashion. The guide provides for this integration.

The instructional guide provides a organizational plan for the entire school year. The reading/language arts guides are organized by school year quarters.
