Submitting a Request for a Written Translation

Translation services are available to schools and offices by request, and are coordinated by the Translation Unit in the Division of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)/Bilingual Programs. Translation requests are to be submitted by completing Form 311-1: Request for Written Translations, and e-mailing the form ans the original document to Translations@mcpsmd.org. Because various contractors are used for proofing and translating documents in languages other than the principal MCPS languages, we must require that all original documents be submitted in MS Word (.doc, not .docx).

The Translation Unit staff translates:

  • Correspondence required by federal law or related to student achievement, health, or safety issues, and
  • MCPS systemwide documents at the request of the unit responsible for the original English document.

The Translation Unit staff format standard letters, but cannot format complex documents with multiple graphics.

The Translation Unit staff does not translate:

  • Copyrighted material,
  • State or federal government documents,
  • Results of assessments,
  • Meeting notes,
  • Testing materials,
  • Curriculum materials,
  • Transcripts,
  • Legal documents,
  • Personal communications,
  • Documentation related to personnel issues, or
  • Similar items.
