Objective

excerpt

standard
big band
literature
at the
grade
4 level
or above,
demonstrating
correct
jazz style,
phrasing,
and inflections.
Objective
2: The
student
will be
able to
perform
the following
tasks:
A. Repertoire

a transcribed
solo(s)
of a prominent
bebop
jazz performer
technically
comparable
to a grade
5 or 6
level
symphonic
selection.
The selection(s)
should
be a minimum
of three
minutes
in length.

B. Improvisation
(1) Perform
a jazz
solo demonstrating
an understanding

supplied
by the
jury at
the audition.
(2) Improvise,
with a
live accompaniment
as rehearsed
by the
student,

preselected
tunes.

there
must be
at least
three

of improvisation.
