The MCPS Prekindergarten/Head Start program serves low-income families with children who will be four years old by September 1, 2009. This includes children with disabilities. There are limited spaces available in select areas of the county for Head Start income-eligible children who will be three years old by September 1, 2009.
To enroll in the four-year-old program, children must be four years old by September 1, 2009.
Registration for the 2009-2010 school year began on March 2, 2009. Walk-in applications are accepted Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m at Rocking Horse Road Center, 4910 Macon Road, Room 141, Rockville, Maryland 20852.
In order for an application for Prekindergarten/Head Start to be processed, parents must bring the following documents:
1. U.S. Birth Certificate or U.S. Passport:
Children who are not U.S. citizens MUST first register with the International Student Admissions Office (ISAO). For an appointment with ISAO, call 301-230-0686.
2. Household Income Verification:
This must be provided for all persons working or receiving income in the household
Acceptable forms of verification are:
2008 1040 tax statements and, if self-employed, submit Schedule "C" (Profit and Loss from Business
(or) three current pay stubs for each job
(or) notarized letter from employers for each job
Proof of additional income sources (i.e., child support, Temporary Cash Assistance, rental income, Social Security benefits, etc.)
3. Acceptable Proofs of Montgomery County Residence:
Current property tax bill or deed and current utility bill (if homeowner)
Copy of current lease and utility bill (if renter) and HOC letter, if applicable
Notarized Shared Housing Disclosure: MCPS Form 335-74 (if sharing housing and/or living with others); AND copy of Homeowners' property tax bill, deed, or Renters' current lease; and owner's utility bill; and three documents mailed to the parent/guardian at the shared housing address
4. Parent's/Guardian's Photo Identification
5. Additional Supporting Documents (i.e. child's medical insurance information, the name, address, and telephone number of child care provider, IEP, rental/utilities assistance, WIC, Food Stamps, WPA or POC child care subsidy vouchers, court documents for custody/guardianship/foster care), if applicable
