Spotlight on SERTified Schools

Kindergartner's can pull it off. Can you?

Summit Hall Elementary Schools opens up the school year with a successful Tap and Stack recycling system for the new recyclable lunch containers. Lisa Sharer, building service worker, sets up Tap and Stack recycling stations in the cafeteria and helps teach the students how to remove the plastic cover when they start lunch. This reduces time spent at the recycling stations. Principal, Keith Jones, supports recycling and sets expectations that raise the bar for staff and students.

The program promotes efficient and responsible energy use in all Montgomery County Public Schools. The program is implemented by a SERT team, made up of a captain, students, teachers, parents, building managers and staff from the principals office. Schools practice environmental stewardship and implement energy saving strategies and active recycling programs to earn quarterly awards. teams receive activities and support to implement their ideas for energy and water conservation.
