$1,000 Signing Bonus Possible for Qualified New Classroom Teachers
The Quality Teacher Incentive Act of 1999 provides a $1,000 signing bonus for qualified new classroom teachers. To qualify, teachers must:
- Be a beginning classroom teacher who has graduated from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
- Have graduated with a GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale as verified by an official college/university transcript.
- Be new to the profession of teaching and hold or be eligible to hold a certificate issued by the Maryland State Department of Education.
- Be employed by MCPS for the 2007-2008 school year as your first year of teaching.
- Complete the Signing Bonus Service Obligation Form that was included in your “New Employee Packet” and send to the Certification Unit. PLEASE RETAIN A COPY OF YOUR SIGNING BONUS SERVICE OBLIGATION FORM FOR YOUR RECORDS. Should you require a replacement form, please contact Susan Lebling as indicated below.
Classroom teachers who receive the signing bonus must remain employed in MCPS for a minimum of three consecutive years or reimburse the $1,000 to the State of Maryland. This is a one-time-bonus.
Monies will be disbursed in late Spring as soon as the funds are received from the Maryland State Department of Education.
