WORKING TITLE: Assistant Director, Office of Shared Accountability GRADE: O MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction of the Director of Shared Accountability, assists in the implementation of strategic initiatives. Provides technical assistance to other offices and schools in the areas of assessment and accountability. Receives and responds to inquiries relating to program evaluation, data management, research, and accountability. Participants in development of annual operating budget. Coordinates and responds to Maryland Public Information Act requests. Under direction, assists in management of critical projects and provides support and assistance to staff reporting to the Director of Shared Accountability. Reviews and supports the day-to-day operations of the Office of Shared Accountability.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of local, state, and national educational issues, assessments, and priorities. Ability to work collaboratively with multiple and diverse constituencies and to lead cross-functional groups. Familiarity with the budgeting and accounts monitoring processes. Ability to perform work of a detailed nature that requires creative thinking and work under pressure to meet prescribed deadlines. Effectively uses data to monitor progress toward achieving organizational effectiveness and system wide goals. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with other employees, school officials, and the public. Ability to present facts and opinions clearly, concisely and objectively. Ability to operate individually, employ solid decision-making skills, as well as develop and maintain highly effective internal and external relationships. Demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize daily tasks. Excellent organizational, communication (written and oral), and interpersonal skills.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Master's degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, public administration, or education. Five years or more of experience or a combination of education, training, and professional experiences, preferable within MCPS. Extensive experience in critical thinking and problem solving, data analysis, and writing/editing reports. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience that provide the knowledge, abilities and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Ability to work extended hours, including evening/weekend meetings.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Manages department activities in the absence of the director.

2. Assists the director in managing functions of the department, including representing the department at Board of Education, County Council, and other meetings as required.

3. Assists in preparation of detailed, periodic project analyses and summaries for the Board of Education, superintendent of schools, chief of schools, and members of the executive staff.

4. Participates in the development of the budget, including the development and review of all of its components, and assists the director by providing information for support of budget requests, changes, and adjustments from initiation to adoption.

5. Communicates with other administrators, personnel and outside organizations to coordinate assigned activities and programs, resolve issues and conflicts, and exchange information.

6. Manages specific projects as assigned.

7. Presents at meetings as requested by the director.

8. Represents the director on selected committees and at assigned meetings.

9. Assists the director and supervisors with all human resources related tasks; serves as lead hiring manager for the department.

10. Serves as a member of committees related to assigned activities.

11. Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
