SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction of the chief Technology Officer, define, lead, and supervise staff in implementing priorities and initiatives centered on the effective use of interactive instructional technologies that transform teaching and learning. Plans for, supports, and supervises staff who provide a wide variety of supports to meet the needs of individual schools related to system wide goals; leads office-wide and district-wide initiatives in developing and leading professional development for school leadership teams and staff that fosters impactful integration of technology, content, and instructional practices, including but not limited to inquiry, differentiation, and assessment as, of, and for learning. Supervises instructional technology supports and the development of innovative professional development resources. Leads and supervises the organization and presentation of K¿12 data within myMCPS and professional development on the use of data to inform instructional decisions. Facilitates the development of professional development products that utilize video, audio, interactive web presentations, web-based conferencing, video-conferencing, online professional learning communities, and professional development assessments. Supervises assigned staff, manages projects, and establishes processes and procedures that support instructional technology and professional development. Collaborates with key stakeholders including central services staff, school-based staff, parents, business and postsecondary partners, and community members.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of current research and best practices on national and state trends and research findings on the integration of technology with teaching, learning, and educational systems in fostering professional learning communities. Excellent planning, organization, management, communications (oral and written) and human relations skills. Ability to prepare papers and presentations for the superintendent and the Board of Education.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, Masters degree preferred. Outstanding administrative or supervisory skills desirable.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: NA
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) As required by the duties and responsibilities of the job.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Ability to work extended hours, including nights and weekends, as required by program activities.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises and leads professional/instructional staff in building a repertoire of strategies that send messages of high expectations for all students through the use of innovative technologies.
Participates in and oversees the design and implementation of differentiated, job-embedded professional development and/or training to meet stakeholders¿ needs and MCPS goals on the integration of innovative technologies.
Provides and supervises customized training and skill- building opportunities for MCPS employees in offices and schools on using interactive technologies to facilitate school improvement, monitor instruction, and facilitate communication.
Oversees efforts that plan for students with special needs (i.e., gifted and talented, English language learners, special education) to ensure that the instructional program meets their needs, specifically through the integration of innovative technologies.
Stays abreast of the latest research, best practices and systemwide data to provide leadership in the development of high-quality curriculum, assessments, and instructional innovations and practices that incorporate the powerful uses of innovative technologies.
Coaches and mentors members of the educational community in the meaningful and productive uses of technology for instruction and monitoring student performance.
Demonstrates exemplary written and oral communication skills
Applies knowledge of current research to practice
Models a variety of research-based best practices
Assists with grant writing opportunities that relate to innovative technologies transforming instructional programs.
Performs related duties as required by the position.
