SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Assists the deputy superintendent of school support and improvement (DSSI) to support schools, school improvement, leadership development, and system wide professional development. Researches, writes, edits, and reviews correspondence and prepares reports; project plans; and presentations for the DSSI. Collaborates with the office of the Chief Academic Officer and other central offices to ensure aligned support and services to schools focused on improving teaching, learning, and best practices. Collaborates and provides support and assistance to associate superintendent for professional development and other staff reporting to the DSSI with Board of Education (BOE) presentations, superintendent of schools follow-ups, and other related matters. Works with the Office of the Chief Operating Officer and the DSSI on budget to ensure that resources and supports are prioritized to meet individual school needs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of school operations, organizational and leadership development; knowledge of MCPS K through 12 instructional program, policies and procedures, process management, strategic planning, Baldrige criteria, professional development, and data analysis. Ability to provide guidance and work collaboratively with all schools. Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, policies, and procedures. Ability to work collaboratively with multiple and diverse constituencies. Knowledge of practical and conceptual, analytical, problem solving, organizational, and leadership skills. Ability to lead and facilitate meetings or work groups. Ability to research, understand, and evaluate instructional programs and methodologies for effectiveness in meeting school improvement targets. Ability to use data-driven decision-making to determine effectiveness of programs and initiatives. Excellent organizational, written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Masters degree from an accredited college or university in educational administration and Administrator II Maryland certification (or eligibility for). School-based and central office administrative leadership experience preferred; extensive experience in thinking quickly and solving problems, data analysis, and writing/editing reports and presentations. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Must meet Maryland State certification requirements for Administrator II.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists with cross-office work among central services to ensure aligned resources and support to schools.

Aligns the Office of the Deputy Superintendent of School Support and Improvement (ODSSI) strategic plans with the Baldrige criteria and the school systems overall strategic plan.

Assists staff members who report to the DSSI with strategic planning, budget development, and supporting schools.

Responds to school-based and central office staff by providing policy interpretations and implementation support.

Prepares/oversees agendas/talking points for daily meetings, Board of Education meetings, and special events

Responds to questions from Board members, parents, principals, and community members.
Assists with the development and maintenance of policies and regulations for which the DSSI is responsible.

Represents the ODSSI on selected committees and at assigned meetings, plans, and makes presentation as requested.

Collaborates with executive staff, associate superintendents, and community superintendents.

Assists in building a professional learning community through the DSSI Leadership Team and Executive Staff meetings, retreats, institutes, and other professional growth activities.

Researches, writes, edits, and reviews correspondence and prepares reports.

Performs other duties as assigned
