SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under the direction of the Supervisor of the Applied Research team, designs research and evaluation studies covering a variety of education issues; manages the studies by developing data collection instruments, training data collectors and analyzing and reporting the results; assists in the design, testing, and implementation of assessment instruments and methods, noting problems and suggesting improvements. Responds to ad hoc requests for accountability and assessment analysis and interpretation. Manages the external research request process and responds to inquiries for external research. Analyzes, approves, and makes recommendations regarding proposed research to be conducted in the school system. Provides technical assistance to other teaching and supervisory staff in interpreting student data and effectively using academic data.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Extensive knowledge of social science research and evaluation methodology, statistics, psychometrics, and data processing; including statistical software packages such as SPSS. Skill writing syntax. Skill to build large data files. Knowledge of current educational research in a wide variety of areas. Experience with leading and conducting high quality educational research and reporting results to key stakeholders. Skill in explaining testing and statistics to administrators, teachers, and parents. Must be knowledgeable about norm- and criterion-referenced testing, including performance-based assessments, as well as national assessment research and trends. Comprehensive knowledge of research methodology. Ability to develop and present ideas effectively, orally and in written form. Strong interpersonal skills.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Masters degree from an accredited college or university, with coursework in psychometrics, evaluation, sociology, or educational research. Doctorate degree desirable. Four years¿ experience in student data administration and/or evaluation and research in a public school system. Three years¿ experience as a principal investigator in educational research, including psychometric analysis. Demonstrated experience using statistical SPSS software (or equivalent) including authoring SPSS syntax for optimal analysis results. Advanced Excel skill level desirable. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
