SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under the direction, assists the chief of staff in managing the responsibilities related to accountability, partnerships, and communications. Researches, writes, edits and reviews reports, presentations, action plans and correspondence for the Superintendent of Schools; collects and analyzes data to inform educational and operational decisions; collaborates with the Office of School Support and Improvement, the Chief Operating Officer, and the Chief Academic Officer to ensure coordination of efforts; manages critical projects and provides support and assistance to staff reporting to the Chief of Staff with presentations and data collection, strategic planning, and major initiatives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of school administration and organizational and leadership theory; Knowledge of Montgomery County Public Schools K-12 instructional program, policies and procedures, supervision theories, strategic planning, and data analysis. Ability to work collaboratively with multiple and diverse constituencies and to lead cross-functional groups. Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Masters degree from an accredited college or university in educational administration and Administrator II Maryland certification (or eligibility for). School-based and central services administration experience, and extensive experience in critical thinking and problem solving, data analysis, and writing/editing reports. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Must meet Maryland State certification requirements for Administrator II.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develops and integrates long-range educational plans and monitoring systems for initiatives and responsibilities supervised by the Chief of Staff.

Assists direct reports to the Chief of Staff with strategic planning, monitoring systems, budget development, and implementation plans for major initiatives.


Aligns the Superintendent of Schools and the Chief of Staff¿s strategic plans with the Baldrige criteria and the school system¿s strategic plan.

Researches, writes, edits, and reviews correspondence and prepares reports for the superintendent of schools and the chief of staff and other executive staff members.

Manages the Office of the Superintendent of Schools and problem solves issues that arise.

Reviews items to be included in the Board of Education Weekly update, status of Board of Education follow-up items, progress on tasks, etc.

Meets with Cabinet members and associate superintendents as necessary to follow-up on items for the superintendent.

Develops and distribute bi-weekly Executive Leadership Team (ELT) meeting agenda and facilitates portions of the meeting as necessary; edits and distributes notes and handouts to ELT members following each meeting.

Develops and distributes weekly Cabinet meeting agenda; communicates the rotation of note takers; follow-up with action notes for Cabinet members.

Collaborates with the Office of the Chief Communications Officer to organize visits to MCPS from outside groups to provide informational materials and coordinates visits to schools and face time with MCPS experts.

Coordinates Board of Education meeting presentation process, including communicating deadlines for submitting materials and scheduling time for Cabinet to have framing discussions and presentation reviews.

Coordinates the financial disclosure process for school and office leaders and collaborates with the Board of Education Office on updates and deadlines.

Facilitates monthly meetings with executive directors and distributes/follow-up on action items following each meeting.

Coordinates with the Office of School Support and Improvement on collecting cluster meeting briefing points and provides to the Board of Education Office.

Responds to questions from Board of Education members, parents, principals, and the community regarding instructional issues and related policies.

Manages specific projects as assigned.

Presents at meetings as requested by the chief of staff.

Represents the chief of staff on selected committees and at assigned meetings.

Collaborates with the chief operating officer, the deputy superintendent of School Support and Improvement, and the chief academic officer on Board of Education papers, presentations, and other projects.

Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
