WORKING TITLE: Supervisor, Data Management GRADE: K MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under general direction of the Information and Application Services director, this position provides recommendations and guidance to various team leads on Student Systems data development, business rules and its processes. Works closely with technical teams to gain acceptance of data architecture and provides guidance and assistance to develop data solution.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of and ability to implement data management technologies, methodologies and best practices. Knowledge and experience in design and implementation of database standardization for data interoperability, database management systems such as Oracle and MS SQL Server. Familiarity in Student Systems applications. Highly knowledgeable in student systems business rules and processes. Ability to collaborate and facilitate the joint application development sessions to define and collect user requirements and translate into data architecture solutions. Ability to track and develop data solutions to implement MCPS data policies. Ability to manage and develop staff. Requires excellent technical, interpersonal and communication skills. Knowledge and application of the six leadership standards that have been established for the Montgomery County Association of Administrators and Principals (MCAAP/MCBOA) Professional Growth System (PGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree required. Four years of experience working in a large organization implementing enterprise data systems and solutions. Considerable experience in information technology in a business and education industry as well as other combinations of applicable education, training and experience that provides knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in this position.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Certificate in Information and systems management preferred
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) None
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Ability to work beyond a 40-hour work week as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Meets with director and key staff to plan and coordinate data management activities.

Design and implement application and database standardization for data interoperability.

Configure application and database security to meet MCPS policies and industry best practices.

Facilitate joint application development sessions with end-users and team leads to define and collect user requirements.

Monitor student database for performance, data integrity and optimization

Provide recommendation and guidance to various team leads regarding student systems business rules and its processes.

Develops and supervises staff and assigns database tasks to team members as appropriate.

Engages in personal development activities to maintain currency with industry-wide best practices.

Directs staff responsible for the development and enhancement of information technology applications providing information on students.

Works closely with staff in other divisions, departments and offices to support the vision, objectives and strategies of OCTO and MCPS.

Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
