WORKING TITLE: Supervisor, School Technology Support GRADE: K MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction, this position provides leadership and supervision of school-based IT Systems Specialists (ITSSs) and other technical staff. Responsible for the deployment, management, and maintenance of school-based technology assets and technical support provided to staff and students. Leads, manages, and supports technology initiatives related to all aspects of technology infrastructure in schools. Collaborates with key stakeholders including central services staff, school-based staff, as well as business partners to develop and implement technology solutions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of and experience with implementing information and educational technologies, methodologies, and best practices. Knowledge of and experience with budgeting and fiscal planning. Ability to collaborate with other departments and offices to identify and accommodate user requirements. Ability to track, prepare budgets and track financial purchases. Strong analytical and technical skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to motivate, coach, and develop the capacity of staff. Knowledge and application of the six leadership standards that have been established for the Montgomery County Association of Administrators and Principals (MCAAP/MCBOA) Professional Growth System (PGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university. Computer Science or Information Technology degree preferred. Coursework and training should include computer science, information management, business management, financial management, and project management. Technical training on workstation and server equipment and software, computer networks, and enterprise systems. Five years or more experience in supporting the technology needs of end users, including desktop hardware and software, integrated peripherals, and networked systems. Two years or more experience within K-12 school systems is preferred. Documented experience in integrating new technologies, resolving technical problems, managing enterprise-wide technology projects, and providing staff leadership required. Financial management and strategic planning experience required. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Plans, develops, and manages school-based IT Systems Specialists (ITSSs) and other technical staff assigned to support schools.

Develops and manages projects and staff associated with the deployment of technology and school readiness efforts that take place during the summer months.

Assists in the development of user requirements for technology projects being implemented by Chief Technology Officer.

Provides guidance, mentorship, and supervision to ITSSs and other technical staff.

Assists in the management of the Job Banding program including compliance within the program as well as the ensuring those that participate are evaluated properly

Participates in the budget process to inform fiscal decisions related to School Technology Support expenditures.

Liaises with principals, teachers, and central office staff to ensure program is compatible with student learning goals, curriculum changes, and program requirements where technology is part of the solution.

Aligns project priorities with the vision of the department and the MCPS enterprise.

Collects, analyzes data and makes recommendations to effectively manage or improve program and/or support to end user.

Stays abreast of current technologies and trends in the information technology industry.

Develops policies and procedures to provide guidance to schools and offices upgrading the hardware and software products.

Oversees and coordinates customer satisfaction survey(s).

Coordinates with and provides expertise to other MCPS divisions and units.

Understands and applies principles of performance evaluation and professional growth for employees.

Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
