SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction, assists in coordinating and facilitating the work of Psychological Services within the Department of Student Services (DSS) ensuring the delivery of a comprehensive program of psychological services in all schools. This class is responsible for supporting the implementation of the professional growth system for psychologists through observations, providing professional supervision and support, assisting in overseeing professional development plans, reviewing psychological assessment reports and coordinating the delivery of psychological services in schools.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Extensive knowledge of Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) organization, policies and regulations; federal and state laws and regulations; and MSDE policies and regulations (e.g., Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004; Section 504; IOH-RA Mental Health Referrals; JHE-RA Psychological Evaluation). Demonstrated leadership experience and ability to prepare written correspondence, documents and reports. Skilled in instructional consultation, behavior management, social skill development, psychological assessment and the identification of exceptionalities. Ability to exercise independent initiative to manage and complete multiple assignments. Ability to represent the director with other administrative and student services staff. Outstanding facilitation, organizational and management skills. Outstanding oral and written communication skills; positive human relations skills; ability to monitor and analyze computer programs (e.g., word processing; databases). Expertise using MCPS applications including: OASIS/Student Services (O/SS) and the Financial Management System (FMS), as well as documenting collaborative problem-solving interventions on myMCPS. The position requires the knowledge and application of the six performance standards that have been established for psychologists that are part of the MCPS Teacher Professional Growth System (TPGS) and knowledge of professional standards of the National Association of School Psychologists and American Psychological Association.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Masters and advanced graduate specialists degree in school psychology or Doctoral degree in school psychology from an accredited college or university; Experience working collaboratively. Currently enrolled or evidence of successful completion of Observing and Analyzing Teaching I (OAT 1) and/or Observing and Analyzing Teaching II (OAT II).
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Meets Maryland State Department of Education certification requirements for School Psychologist. Nationally Certified School Psychologists (NCSP) preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Some lifting may be necessary to move boxes of psychological records.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Availability for evening meetings as necessary; available to make and receive telephone calls related to coordinating psychological services and crisis situations.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists Psychological Services in implementing the strategic plans for the Office of Special Education and Student Services, the Department of Student Services, and Psychological Services.

Facilitates communications with psychologists and other MCPS offices, departments, and units, school staff, professional associations, and community agencies and organizations.

Conducts pre- and post-observation meetings with psychologists; conducts formal and informal observations of psychologists; prepares written observation reports.

Coordinates the preparation, review, and progress monitoring of psychologists¿ Professional Development Plans (PDP).

Coordinates assignments of psychologists to schools including coverage for staff on short-term leave.

Coordinates intern interviews, hiring, and supervision.

Reviews psychological assessment reports and peer reviews.

Helps monitor accuracy of psychological assessments database and central storage of psychological reports.

Assists in monitoring the delivery of psychological services and the analysis of program evaluation data.

Responds to requests regarding Student Services/Psychological Services programs, budgets, grants, and data.

Plans and coordinates Department of Student Services and Psychological Services meetings.

Represents Psychological Services at meetings such as Maryland State Department of Education and Joint Psychological Services Collaboration Committee.

Performs related work and other duties as required.
