WORKING TITLE: Pre-K-12 Content Specialist, School Library Media Program GRADE: BD MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction of the School Library Media Programs (SLMP) supervisor, collaborates with content team members, school staff, and stakeholders to develop curriculum and professional development resources that integrate information literacy skills into the content areas. Supports school-based staff and facilitates collaborative interaction among staff, parents, and students to promote effective instructional practices and student achievement of rigorous curriculum in information literacy skills. Provides direct support to schools on a regular basis. Leads innovation across all school libraries to ensure effective, anti-racist and equitable outcomes for all students.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Combination of expertise in multiple areas with emphasis on current research and trends in school library media. Thorough knowledge of MCPS PK-12 curriculum, including the integration of information literacy skills for all types of learners. Knowledge of MCPS Strategic Plan goals, state and national standards. Knowledge of Universal Design for Learning, effective differentiation, equitable practices, and culturally relevant curriculum. Ability to design and deliver professional development opportunities to stakeholders based on current research and with an antiracist lens. Knowledge of Common Sense Education Digital Citizenship. curriculum and how to integrate it into core content areas. Ability to use web and video technology to present information and encourage collaboration and effective instruction. Ability to successfully collaborate with staff, parents, and students to reach instructional goals. Ability to analyze formal and informal assessment data to determine instructional needs in a specified content. Excellent organizational, oral and written communication, and human relations skills.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Master's degree from an accredited college or university library media or information science program with course work in curriculum development and instruction. Five years of experience as an outstanding library media specialist with the ability to develop and model instructional strategies and technology applications. School-based instructional leadership is desirable.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Meets Maryland State certification requirements in school library media.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) None
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Occasional evening and weekend work required to meet deadlines and collect user feedback.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Collaborates with the content teams, school staff, and parents to develop and support implementation of the online curriculum in content areas with the integration of information literacy skills.

Provides consultative services to school-based staff to support student achievement of the MCPS curriculum in a specified content.

Analyzes, evaluates, and supports effective instruction in the library media program.

Collaborates with technology consultants to plan and implement instructional technology training to library media staff.

Makes on-site and Web-based presentations to parents and staff.

Reviews field appropriate literature and research studies and reports to support and disseminate instructional best practices in library media programs that develop content knowledge and skills, critical and creative thinking, and academic success.

Works closely with school staff through the facilitation of work groups and advisory committees to support effective implementation of school library media programs and effective instructional practices and to identify data and collect feedback for continuous program improvements.

Assumes responsibility for the coordination and implementation of special projects.
