WORKING TITLE: Psychologist, Early Childhood Gifted Model Program GRADE: BD MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction provides psychological services, conducts formal psycbological evaluation of students for program planning, educational placement, or referral to available resources; participates in design and implementation of early childhood model, provides program consultation for school staff, provides observation, counseling, and other therapeutic interventions, provides in-service training in psychological skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of child development, especially early childhood characteristics, human behaveor, learning theory, family systems theory, gifted and special education, & education of the culturally different. Excellent skills in psychological assessment and evaluation, group process, and therapy principles. Excellent oral and written communication, organizational, and human relations skills. Ability to work well with young children, parents and staff. Ability to speak Spanish desirable.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Master's degree in psychology from an accredited college or university. Some experience working with young children in an early childhood setting. Experience in working with disadvantaged and minority students desirable. Training in clinical child psychology and education of ESOL students desirable. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Meets Maryland certification requirements for School Psychologist.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) None.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Participates in design and implementation of program model and refinement of strategies and techniques.

Receives and reviews available developmental information from school and outside resources about student behavior(s) and selects appropriate psychological interventions.

Interprets and synthesizes information obtained from psychological interventions in order to prepare a written report.

Uses information obtained from the psychological evaluation to develop written recommendations.
