SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under the guidance of the Public Information Supervisor, supports the Office of Communications systemwide communications efforts. Coordinates events and media engagements in a fast-paced office environment providing innovative and effective approaches to improve service to customers. Serves as a spokesperson for Spanish-language media outlets. Assists in the development of outreach strategies for the Spanish-speaking community. Exercises considerable initiative to resolve problems and to anticipate and respond professionally to telephone and email queries. Provides frontline support in the Office of Communications. Supports the Maryland Public Information Act fulfillment process.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Working knowledge of organizational communications and Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) organizational structure. Bilingual and biliterate in Spanish. Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced office, coordinate logistics for major events, and quickly respond to communication needs. Excellent interpersonal, human relations, oral and written communication skills required. Knowledge of the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: High School or GED diploma required. Minimum five years of progressively more responsible experience, three of which shall have been in the administrative support class in a school or central office setting. Training and experience in office computing software applications. On-camera media experience. Experience developing/updating social media platforms. Other combinations of applicable education, training and experience that provide the knowledge, abilities and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Coordinates communications and logistics within the Office of Communications and with other MCPS offices and schools.

Assists in the planning and execution of events.

Researches and prepares written materials for the Office of Communications.

Supports and prepares staff for media interviews

Engages with the media on behalf of MCPS.

Assists visitors and staff by answering questions and resolving problems.

Assists in the fulfillment of Maryland Public Information Act requests.

Assists with the creation and review of Spanish-language website and digital platform content.

Understands and applies principles of performance evaluation and professional growth standards for employees.

Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
