WORKING TITLE: Personnel Assistant III, Certification Unit GRADE: 12 MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under general supervision, performs a variety of tasks required to accurately verify, record, and maintain employee certification and employment records in the MCPS and Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) databases and provide general information related to services provided by the certification unit.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Working knowledge of MCPS policies, procedures, personnel operations, employment requirements, and education requirements for professional personnel certification. Ability to understand complex personnel data systems. Ability to enter data accurately and efficiently. Ability to organize work to ensure accurate and timely completion of assigned jobs and meet deadlines, Must be extremely detailed oriented and accurate in reviewing documents and preparing correspondence to clients and staff. Skilled in operating typical office computer workstations and software applications with proficiency. Ability to make decisions based upon experience, good judgment, and established departmental policies, procedures, and regulations. Ability to exercise independent initiative to perform both original and recurring assignments required. Ability to work with a diverse team with good oral, written, time and document management and interpersonal communication skills. Highly motivated to pursue course work and training to enhance knowledge and skills in the unit. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or GED and experience working in a high volume office environment providing detailed work tracking client/customer status preferred. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Positions require sustained operation of keyboard devices.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintains certification records for MCPS educators including information in the educators MSDE Educator Information System records.

Ensures that documents received by the Certification Unit are distributed appropriate staff to for action.

Provides certification services and information to MCPS educators (teachers, specialists, and administrators).

Ensures new hire files are complete in the State Educator Information System to support the issuance of a Maryland certificate.

Provides excellent customer service to all stakeholders.

Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
