WORKING TITLE: IT Systems Specialist, Wireless, Telephony and Network Specialist GRADE: 18-25 MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under the direction of the Supervisor of Telecommunications and Network Security, is responsible for generally supervised and independent work supporting a large LAN/WAN/Telephony network, including wireless devices and accounts, and providing guidance to technical support personnel engaged in a wide variety of technical support activities such as the design, installation, testing, modification, enhancement, and maintenance of a school-based or centralized wireless system, and wireless computer networks; and performs related work as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Considerable knowledge of practices related to managing and trouble-shooting a complex wireless network infrastructure to include expertise in programming changes and troubleshooting for the various wireless systems. The work requires expertise with central management of wireless controllers and wireless access points. Requirements include a strong understanding of wireless technology, providing data network operational support and planning for communications projects involving TCP/IP and related protocol connectivity for networks supporting MCPS staff and students. Ability to work in a collaborative, innovative, flexible and team-oriented environment. Ability to effectively lead work teams and facilitate process design sessions. Ability to determine priorities, allocate resources, manage projects, measure and analyze results. Proven organizational skills, flexibility, adaptability and the ability to learn quickly in various technical and creative environments, while delivering quality work within tight deadlines. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to build productive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders both internally and externally. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree required. Three years or more of progressively more responsible experience in wireless monitoring, managing and trouble-shooting a mixed wireless infrastructure environment, and administration. Other combinations of applicable education, and training, which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: A valid motor vehicle operator's license may be required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) May be required to move computer/ network equipment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Night or weekend work may be required on rare occasions

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs first level support for technology hardware and software in schools and offices.

Coordinates wireless hardware maintenance and repair activities.

Analyzes and resolves basic LAN and wireless problems.

Ensures use of local and wide area network best practices.

Prioritizes, schedules, and allocates technology support resources for the implementations assigned.

Coordinates with outside vendors for repairs, costs and system upgrades.

Travels between central offices and school sites to deliver essential onsite service and support.

Assists with the management and maintenance of all software and hardware systems required to carry out the implementation assigned.

Attends meetings to discuss technical requirements.

Ensures collaboration with other technology teams.

Understands and applies the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS) commitment to students, knowledge of job, professionalism, interpersonal, communication, organization, and problem solving.

Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
