OFFICIAL TITLE: Data Support Specialist I CODE: 5850 SQ/OQ: Optimal Qualified
WORKING TITLE: Data Support Specialist I, Employee Retiree Service Center (ERSC) GRADE: 21 MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under general supervision, compiles work force information and prepares and distributes scheduled reports and mailings to the Federal and State Departments of Labor, Maryland State Department of Education, the Board of Education, the Office of the Superintendent, and MCPS employees. Responds to ad hoc data requests from the superintendent and from other offices and schools when authorized to do so. Serves as a member of the ERSC web team and assists ERSC data Integration specialists in the maintenance and upkeep of the MCPS retirement and benefits system.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Requires skill in completing program and system documentation; strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills; working knowledge of standard database technologies and their use in workforce reporting; strong consultation skills necessary to work effectively with others designing, evaluating and executing workforce data reports and to support staff in the use of technology. Knowledge of programming languages, tools, and database management software including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Access, Visual Basic, Oracle (or other relational database), Discoverer (or other SQL-based query language), and Visio. Must be extremely detail-oriented and accurate in the preparation of workforce reports; must be able to learn and apply new technological solutions as they become available.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree in computer science or certificate from an accredited computer programming school providing over 500 hours of computer training in data and information processing. Considerable experience with MS/Office products, SQL (Structured Query Language), in-depth knowledge of Crystal Reports, Oracle Discoverer or other reporting tools. Programing experience preferred. Working knowledge of the Lawson Human Resource Information System or other HRIS; experience reporting human resources workforce information preferred. Combination of appropriate education and experience will also be considered

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Consults with requesters to determine the most appropriate means of acquiring and reporting on workforce information.

Determines the most appropriate format for workforce reports, considering printed reports and their distribution, web-based and other electronic communication media such as Microsoft Outlook.

Maintains the MCPS workforce reporting repository and task logs

Prepares required workforce information reports using Crystal Reports, Oracle Discoverer, Excel, Access, SQL, and other appropriate software packages.

Responds to ad hoc workforce data inquiries in support of grants, federal and state workforce surveys, and in other areas impacting system resources and legal obligations.

Assists and trains other units in producing workforce data available through the Lawson HRIS.

Builds a workforce reporting schedule that addresses annual personnel reports and other standard workforce reports used by the Maryland State Department of Education, County Council, the Board of Education and executive staff.

Prepares reasonable assurance of employment notification for MCPS temporary personnel.

Prepares the return from leave mailings for the ERSC leave unit.

Meets with other units within the Employee and Retiree Service Center to discuss workforce reporting and workforce data needs.

Attends meetings representing the Employee and Retiree Service Center in matters related to workforce reporting and workforce data needs.

Designs, develops and maintains various ERSC databases.

Maintains documentation on workforce reporting processes, including a database of all data/information requests

Serves as backup for all daily maintenance and upkeep of the MCPS retirement system and the HRIS/Benefits.

Serves as member of the ERSC web team.

Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGC).

Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
