OFFICIAL TITLE: Project Designer CODE: 6350 SQ/OQ: Optimal Qualified
WORKING TITLE: Project Designer GRADE: 20 MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction, performs technical design work in designing construction projects. Work of the class involves designing construction projects. The employee designs project and prepares drawings and specifications.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of structural design concepts and practices. Knowledge of the practices, methods, procedures, materials, tools, and equipment used in drafting. Working knowledge of architectural, mechanical, electrical, site, and structural trades. Ability to draft complete drawings and plans for projects. Good communications skills. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree required. College coursework in architecture, architectural engineering or closely related field. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience equivalent to a bachelors degree, which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position, may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: None.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) None.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Use of private vehicle (reimbursement provided). to travel to construction sites on frequent and unscheduled basis.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Designs construction projects.

2. Prepares detailed drawings, plans and specifications.

3. Confers with architects, engineers and school staff regarding designs.

4. Maintains project drawings and records.

5. Performs related work as required.
