WORKING TITLE: Volunteer and Community Resouces Coordinator GRADE: 24 MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under general direction, designs and implements volunteer and business/community partnership programs for MCPS. Work of the class involves extensive contact with school staffs and the public, including the business community. The worker initiates actions with groups, institutions, organization and individuals throughout the community to enlist support for the volunteer program, which provides considerable staff support to school operations. The business/community partnership brings business and community leaders into various school programs and activities as resources and partners.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of Montgomery County and its human resources, community and business organizations, and activities; knowledge of school and classroom organization and mission. Demonstrated ability to speak well and write clearly and effectively. Ability to motivate staff and volunteers. Skill in training and working with staff. Excellent human relations and communications skills. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree required. Experience in development and administration of volunteer and partnership programs required. Some experience in the education process desirable. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience equivalent to a Bachelors degree, which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position, may be considered.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides materials, processes, and technical assistance to support school efforts to develop and manage partnership and volunteer programs which recruit, train, place, supervise, evaluate and recognize volunteer resources from all segments of the community. Provides management training for school-based volunteer coordinators. Provides consultant services, technical assistance, and staff development activities to enhance the ability of staff and community agents to develop and maintain partnership and volunteer programs that can access needed resources in the community. Develops and maintains processes and relationships with private, public, business and community agencies that will enable schools and offices to form mutually beneficial partnerships with the community to enhance staff effectiveness and learning opportunities for students.

Promotes awareness and interest in volunteer and partnership program development. Advises executive staff on issues and trends concerning volunteering and partnership development; maintains contact with local, state and national organizations concerned with volunteer and partnership development. Provides supervision for unit staff in the development and implementation of the Connection Resource Bank. In conjunction with the President of The Montgomery Education Connection, provides supervision for the MEC Executive Director in the development of MEC projects to benefit MCPS. Performs related work as required.
