Catering Services Worker

WORKING TITLE: Catering Services Worker GRADE: 06 MONTHS: 10
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under supervision, performs catering services duties involving the preparation, transportation and serving of food at authorized events. Work involves meeting with clients concerning catering needs issues including number to be served, food preparation and food serving resources. Transports food and equipment in a van outfitted for this purpose.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of food preparation, serving and food distribution options related to catering services. Ability to follow food sanitation procedures. Ability to retrieve necessary menu items and recipe ingredients. Strong interpersonal and communications skills demonstrating a commitment to excellent customer service. Ability to organize, load and drive a van outfitted for catering service. Good organizational skills and an ability to work cooperatively in close proximity with others under constant deadlines. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Completion of the ninth grade required. High School or GED diploma preferred. Experience with food preparation techniques and safety procedures. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Valid Class C noncommercial driver's license. Sanitation certification required or obtain this certification during the first six months of employment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Ability to perform work requiring sustained moderate physical effort, operation of commercial food service equipment, movement of objects weighing 40-60 pounds and continuous standing. Ability to drive a catering services van.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) May require some evening and weekend work.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Meets with clients to ascertain catering needs making recommendations related to menus, food delivery, and serving, demonstrating excellent customer service.

2. Prepares, delivers and serves food to meet catering services needs.

3. Organizes, loads, and drives catering services van to transport food and equipment to remote locations.

4. Coordinates the set up, serving and clean up activities related to catering service activities.

5. Meets all sanitation requirements related to catering services.

6. Performs related work as required.
