WORKING TITLE: Mechanical Systems Assistant Supervisor Sh 1 GRADE: 20 MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under general supervision, is responsible for managing and assisting in the daily mechanical repair operations of an assigned depot location. Leads the cluster team to include, recruiting, staffing, evaluating, developing and recognizing. Takes responsibility for overall team and individual team member performance.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Meets the technical knowledge requirements of a Mechanical Systems Technician IV. Ability to organize people, schedule work, and customer oriented. Able to use a computer as a management tool. Understands safety requirements and mandates of the mechanical trades unit. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: High School or GED diploma required. Associates degree preferred. Coursework or trade school training in HVAC, plumbing, safety, computer applications, supervision or other applicable trades. Considerable experience in building mechanical systems maintenance, construction and renovation, school equipment, and facilities maintenance, including lead or supervisory experience required. . Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid driver's license is required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Ability to lift moderately heavy objects, climbs, and completes inspection of work and related maintenance activities.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Ability to meet prescribed physical examination requirements. Ability to work overtime as required.

1. Works within cluster families in performing mechanical repairs and developing future needs.

2. Researches and orders parts and materials needed for repairs.

3. Uses MS Office software; performs Internet research.

4. Evaluates procedures and considers impact of actions.

5. Proposes changes to prevent problems.

6. Discusses problems and solutions with customers & staff.

7. Communicates safety procedures and protocols.

8. Participates in Supervisory Development classes.

9. Evaluates procedures and considers impact of actions; proposes new procedures.

10. Writes draft instructions and directions.

11. Resolves problems and concerns with customers & staff.

12. Communicates and models safety procedures and protocols; Assists with safety training.

13. Performs related work as required.
