WORKING TITLE: Maintenance Automation Specialist GRADE: 24 MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction, implements, evaluates and maintains the Maintenance work order/asset management system (Maximo). Responsible for the design, installation, maintenance, security and integrity of the Maximo. Provides support for all aspects of the Maintenance Division's computer systems including hardware, network, software and Division website as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of standard computer and network operating systems, protocols, and software. Knowledge of and proficiency with operating systems and related system software including MS DOS, MS Windows, XML, HTML, web design, current Windows Server and Java. Considerable knowledge of the capabilities, limitations and general characteristics of computers, peripheral equipment, systems software and application software utilized by the division. Thorough knowledge of MCPS data systems and the ability to ensure that programs which interface with the main central office data systems are maintained. Ability to troubleshoot, correct network malfunctions, and calmly support staff during high priority situations. Ability to understand, determine need for and utilize software packages. Ability to evaluate program and systems test methods and results to insure completeness and accuracy. Ability to apply logic and demonstrated skill in integrating several parts of a system into one. Ability to determine priorities, recommend resource allocation, manage multiple projects, measure and analyze results; and ability to communicate and effectively interact with others and work frequently under pressure. Ability to develop course outlines and train staff in a classroom environment or one-on-one. Ability to direct and supervise technical staff in maintaining and improving new and existing computer applications. Skill in developing logical solutions to problems of a technical nature. Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree required. College level course work in computer related fields. Three to five years progressively more responsible experience in user support and technology administration, and experience with Maximo and Actuate BIRT reporting tool or similar maintenance management software. Senior level programming, analysis and project leader experience. Considerable management training or coursework.. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience equivalent to a Bachelors degree, which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position, may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: A valid motor vehicle operator¿s license. Microsoft Technology Associate certification strongly preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Position requires operation of computer terminals for sustained periods, wiring and moving of computer equipment from one site to another. Installation of hardware requires the ability to reach wiring in the ceiling and reach electric outlets near the floor. Ability to move and/or carry equipment up to 60 pounds.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Ability to work varied hours in response to emergency work needs. Position requires travel to a variety of MCPS maintenance locations and schools.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides technical support for the Maximo Work Order/Asset Management system.

Attends regular Division of Maintenance (DOM) Maximo meetings.

Develops and documents plans and procedures for Maximo system back-end operation.

Documents changes/modifications to the Maximo program.

Reviews IBM information and determines when patches, fixes or upgrades are needed for Maximo.

Recommends and coordinates the use of technical Maximo consultants and report writers as needed.

Provides guidance and recommendations to the Division of Maintenance and Department of Facilities management for funding, licensing and upgrade plans for Maximo.

Provides support to the Maintenance ITSS.

Develops reports from Maximo using Crystal Reports or BIRT.

Develops and provides training to central office and school-based staff to effectively input data, query, and extract information from the MAXIMO system.

Provides full support of the Division of Maintenance web pages, as webmaster, using the current webmaster software product.

Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
