WORKING TITLE: Electronic Technician II GRADE: 18 MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction, performs skilled and/or supervisory work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of audiovisual and other electronic equipment and systems. This is a senior crafts classification involving advanced and extensive knowledge of equipment and systems utilizing high voltage and light amperage. Employees in this class act as work leader on major installation or repair projects or assist the supervisor in the overall coordination of the section. Nature of work includes performing the more complex and technical operations of all phases of electronic work.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Completion of the MCPS Electronics Test at the required score. Thorough knowledge of the standard methods, tools, and equipment used in the repair of electronic communication equipment and systems. Considerable knowledge of the basic and applied principles of electronic and electrical theory. Ability to provide technical assistance to technicians in the installation and repair of electronic equipment and systems. Ability to diagnose by inspection defects in equipment or systems to make the proper adjustments or repairs. Skill in the application of the methods and techniques used in testing, inspecting, and repairing audiovisual and other electronic and electrical equipment. Good human relations and communications skills. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: High School or GED diploma required. Completion of a recognized technical training course in television and radio servicing and experience of increasing responsibility in the installation and repair of audiovisual and other electronic equipment (ex., fire alarms, PA, CAN and security as required). Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid Maryland noncommercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Ability to perform work requiring some climbing and physical exertion.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Completion of the MCPS Electronics Test at the required score.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Schedules jobs and issues work orders to employees.

2. Reviews special or difficult assignments with technicians.

3. Visits schools which report major or unusual problems involving audiovisual and other electronic equipment and systems.

4. Tests and inspects equipment and repairs radio and television equipment.

5. Acts as work leader of repair crew on major installation and repair projects.

6. Acts for the supervisor in supervisor's absence.

7. May maintain 2-way voice communication devices, complying with FCC regulations for facility staff and security.

8. Assists the supervisor in preparing diagrams and sketches of equipment and systems to be installed and in preparing estimates of materials, time, and labor required to complete job. Initiates purchase orders.

9. Performs related work as required.
