WORKING TITLE: Maintenance Painter II GRADE: 14 MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction performs skilled and minor supervisory work in the painting of building interiors and exteriors plastering walls and ceilings and refinishing repaired furniture and fixtures This is a senior crafts classification involving an advanced knowledge of painting plastering and wood refinishing practices and procedures Most of the assignments in this class involve scheduling supervising and inspecting paint crews engaged in the painting of building interiors and exteriors As crew leaders on the job site employees in this class are responsible for performing the work with minimum interference to classroom activities Nature of work involves some exposure to accident and injury hazards and to disagreeable elements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Working knowledge of the methods, tools, and practices used in painting and plastering work; working knowledge of paints, plaster, varnishes, paint removers, and other surface preparations and finishes and of their properties and application; working knowledge of occupational hazards of the trade and precautionary measures to be observed. Ability to assign and inspect the work of a crew of painters. Skill in mixing paints and in matching and blending colors; skill in the application of plaster, paints, and other finishes to a variety of surfaces. Good human relations and communication skills.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Completion of the ninth grade required. High School or GED diploma preferred. Experience of increasing and varied responsibility in painting, plastering, and wood finishing. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid Maryland driver's license or equivalent.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Ability to lift heavy objects and perform work requiring extensive standing and bending; ability to lift heavy objects. Ability to work from scaffolding and stepladders.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Ability to work overtime as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Receives work orders from supervisor.

Operates truck to transport painters, equipment, and materials to school buildings.

Consults with school principals regarding color scheme and the scheduling of work to avoid interference with instructional program.

Supervises the mixing and preparing of paints for quantify and color.

Assigns painters to brushing, rolling, and spraying of the interior and exterior of buildings, and supervises work in progress.

Works with crew in painting walls, ceilings, windows, trim, and fixtures.

Maintains records of time and materials.

Applies plaster to walls and ceilings of newly built or renovated offices and rooms.

Patches holes resulting from maintenance work and does finish plastering for some larger projects.

Paints and refinishes furniture and wooden fixtures to match existing units.

Cleans and fills surfaces.

Applies stains and finishes surface by varnishing, sanding, waxing, or with other materials and methods.

Understands and applies principles of performance evaluation and professional growth standards for employees.

Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
