SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction of the Auto Parts Supervisor, the work of the class orders, receives, stores, and issues automotive equipment and replacement parts from the central parts room at the Shady Grove location. An employee in this class is accountable for properly receiving, inspecting, storing and issuing a wide variety of automotive parts. Duties include the performance of heavy manual labor in the receipt, storage, and issuance of materials. Reviews requisitions or purchase orders and handles any unusual or special work problems
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of methods and practices of warehousing, distribution and inventory controls methods; knowledge of MCPS policies referring to depot storage and distribution; knowledge of warehouse safety and accident prevention methods and practices; Extensive knowledge of a variety of parts, equipment, tools, materials, and supplies used in the automotive trade. Knowledge of storeroom methods and procedures, including inventory record-keeping, and purchase and requisition procedures. Familiarity with computerized inventory systems required. Ability to supervise and train a subordinate auto parts assistant staff; ability to keep records and prepare budget requests and reports; and ability to utilize automated data processing systems and supporting software to manage distribution and inventory, if required. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: High School or GED diploma required. Three years of progressively more responsible experience in the receipt, storage, and shipment of auto parts and supplies, some of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity in a parts depot/warehouse.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid Maryland state commercial class B driver's license or equivalent.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Sufficient physical strength and stamina to lift objects up to 100 lbs.; stand for extended periods of time, and complete work requiring considerable physical exertion. Exposure to inclement weather possible.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Overtime work may be required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Primary responsibility for auto parts inventory at Shady Grove Depot. Insures that parts are delivered to the depots; adds, deletes and charges parts for the satellites; monitors stock levels and advises the Auto Parts Assistant of what is needed.

2. Receives and stores orders for parts or equipment; checks contents against billing to verify that the order is correct and complete and that costs are as quoted or per authorized price schedules; uses trade catalogs listing replacement part numbers and issues parts to mechanics for repair of vehicles.

3. As requested by and in the absence of the Auto Parts Supervisor, orders and reorders automotive replacement parts and other items such as chassis, engines, brakes, electrical and ignition units, tires, tubes, safety equipment, gasoline, oil, and shop supplies;

4. Consults with shop supervisor to determine correct spare parts which will be needed and then obtains these items for stock; as required,
contacts at least three distributors whose products meet specifications and orders from lowest bidder; confers with sales representatives who desire to compare cost of items.

5. Performs related work as required.
