OFFICIAL TITLE: Transportation Staff Asst I CODE: 9215 SQ/OQ: Optimal Qualified
WORKING TITLE: Transportation Staff Assistant I GRADE: 11 MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction, performs varied administrative support tasks, for the administrators and staff in the Department of Transportation. The work requires an understanding of departmental organization, transportation policies and procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Working knowledge of current MCPS operating procedures, regulations. Ability to remember names and titles of school system administrators and supervisors. Good human relations and communications skills. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: High School or GED diploma required. Some experience working in a large department, responsible for a variety of office support activities. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid Maryland motor vehicle operator's license.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Ability to lift heavy objects, 50 lb. minimum.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) May be required to report to other locations to assist staff in emergency situations.
OVERTIME ELIGIBLE: Yes

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Collects, and delivers of incoming and outgoing mail.

2.May operate commercial motor vehicle to transport U.S. mail to, or pick U.S. mail up from, U.S. Post Office

3. May operate commercial motor vehicle in the receipt and delivery of inter-building mail.

4. Performs related work as required.
