SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction, verifies the library book evaluations on the MCPS evaluation database, helps to ensure all library books in MCPS schools are in compliance with Regulation IIB-RA, maintains a review library database of complimentary books received from vendors, tracks books circulated to school library media specialists for evaluation and compliance of regulations, logs approved books in evaluation database for inclusion in MCPS school library media centers.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Considerable knowledge of the fundamentals of the MCPS library automation system and Public Access Catalog, MCPS materials evaluation systems and basic knowledge of iProcurement in FMS; MCPS evaluation procedures. Ability to deal courteously and efficiently with a wide variety of people; ability to exercise judgment in resolving problems and overcoming difficult situations; ability to maintain detailed files and databases of circulating vendor books, managing problems, etc., and to prepare accurate and meaningful reports; ability to analyze evaluation reports and confirm they follow MCPS procedures and regulations as established by the Board of Education; Computer competency with the MS Office products, Word, Excel, Access, etc.. Working knowledge of business English and spelling; Excellent oral, written communications and human relations skills. Knowledge of the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: High School or GED diploma required. Associates degree preferred. Coursework in library science, library data automation required. Experience working in a school library media center preferred. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position, may be considered.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Helps to maintain library book evaluation database
Tracks materials circulated to school media specialists for their review
Reviews material evaluations received from school library media specialists for accuracy and compliance with MCPS regulations and procedures. (IIB-RA Evaluation of Instructional Materials, Textbooks, and Library Books).
Manages and maintains the library automation system for the Evaluation & Selection unit.
Consults with internal MCPS staff and vendors while researching questions and problems.
Manages, logs, and tracks complimentary materials received from vendors.
Tracks vendor materials sent to school library media specialists for evaluation.
Updates the evaluation database for library books available for MCPS schools.
Maintains a vendor database of all vendors who send materials.
Prepares requests to vendors for library materials requested by library media specialists for inclusion in school libraries
Performs general office clerical work as assigned..
Performs related duties as required.
