transcripts,
certificates or references at this time, but
you might want to assemble these and other
relevant documents in case they are required
at a later date. MCPS also accepts interfolio.com
electronic portfolios in lieu of paper credentials.
is
a requirement for employment. Questions about
your certification status should be addressed

If you accept employment with MCPS, you will be required to take a special education,
reading, and multi-cultural/human relations course if you have not already
done so. Applicants
who are contracted for positions in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education,

MCPS uses electronic resume scanning
technology that requires you to submit a scanner-ready
resume. Following these guidelines will help
insure that your resume accurately reflects
your training, your experience and the areas
for which you seek employment.
Place your name at the top of the resume followed by your address, last 4 digits of your Social Security
number and, if applicable, your E-mail address. Use the following format:
Name
Street
Address
City,
State, Zip
Telephone
Number where you can be contacted including area
code
SSN:
xxxx
E-mail:
xxx@xxx
Do not put your name at the bottom of the page or type it vertically on the side.
These options might be eye catching, but can confuse a computer. Write
your name
and last 4 digits of your Social Security number at the top of each page, in case the pages
get separated.
Resume
searches use key words and phrases. Put yourself in
the principal's place. What words would you search
for when filling a vacancy in your area of interest?
Be sure to include these on your resume.
Clearly
state the subject(s) for which you seek employment. When
indicating the job you seek, be specific about grade
levels and subjects or specialty areas and whether
you would accept a full-time or a part-time position.
List
all degrees earned and their conferral dates (month
and year), area(s) of study, and institutions from
which degrees were granted. List all colleges/universities
attended. Include academic honors awarded. Report
your GPA.
List
all relevant certificates and licenses you
currently hold. Be specific about your certificates
subject area(s), grade level endorsements, and dates
of validity.
Provide
a complete list of all teaching and work experiences beginning
with your most recent assignment. Include actual job
titles, even those that may not be familiar, and the
beginning and ending dates of your employment. For
each experience, include the percentage of time worked — part-time
or full-time — and whether it
was contracted or substitute. Provide details about
your teaching experience.
List
all student teaching assignments and their grade levels
and content areas. Include other work assignments
relevant to the position(s) for which you seek employment.
Be sure to list any MCPS work experiences, including
substitute and temporary assignments. Use two or three
pages if necessary. The computer can handle multiple
pages better than small margins or tight spacing.
Note relevant
volunteer experiences and special skills.
These help match your strengths to the needs of our
schools. Include significant professional development
activities or specialized training. List any professional
organizations to which you belong. Include offices
you held.
Do
not send letters of reference with your resume,
but
do include a list of professional
references with titles and phone numbers.
Experienced teachers must include their most recent
principal or supervisor. Beginning teachers must include
their cooperating teacher(s) and university student
teaching supervisor.
Faxing your resume is the quickest way to apply. If you choose to mail a resume,
however, submit a typewritten or computer-generated resume printed on one side
of white or very light paper measuring 8 1/2 by 11 inches. An original document
scans better than a photocopy. Assemble your resume using a paper clip, not
staples.
With scanned resumes, simple is better.
When preparing your resume, use a standard
font, such as Arial, Helvetica, Courier
or Times New Roman and a point size between 10
and 14. Avoid ornate fonts. They do not scan
well. Avoid using italics, underlining, shading, REVERSE
or bold print, boxes , vertical | or horizontal ___
lines, parentheses ( ) and brackets [ ]. Avoid unusual
placement of information such as vertically typed
information. |
