| Under direction, provides leadership and support for
arranging transportation for pupils in regular programs
and special and alternative education; assures that
all vehicles owned by-the Board of Education are properly
maintained; is responsible for the training and supervision
of bus operators and attendants.

| Thorough knowledge of the public school laws and the
Montgomery County Board of Education policies and procedures
affecting transportation of pupils. Excellent planning
and organizational ability and excellent oral and written
communications and human relations skills.

| Bachelor's degree (Master's degree, preferred) from
an accredited college or university with course work
in public school administration and public school transportation.
Experience in a responsible supervisory/administrative
position in an organization with a large pupil transportation
department; or any combination of applicable education,
training, and experience which provides the knowledge,
abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively
in the position. |
| Meets Maryland certification requirements for school
transportation supervisor. |

weather affects bus operations and as required. |

In cooperation with the Department of Human Resources,
recruits, trains, and supervises all transportation
personnel, and makes recommendations on their employment,
transfer, promotion, and release.
Evaluates personnel in accordance with the appropriate
evaluation program.
Prepares and updates bus schedules for all schools
in the county; works with staff in the planning office
to advise on boundary changes; develops and administers
a transportation program to meet all the requirements
of the daily instructional program and extracurricular
activities; cooperates with school principals and others
responsible for planning special school trips; conforms
with all state laws and regulations regarding school
transportation; recommends directly to the superintendent
of schools the closing or delayed opening of schools
as a result of hazardous driving conditions for buses.
Acts as liaison with parents for complaints and special
requests.
Advises on specifications for vehicles that are purchased
by the Board of Education. Maintains all district-owned
equipment and develops plans for preventive maintenance.
Maintains safety standards in conformance with state
and insurance regulations and develops a program of
preventive safety.
Assures that meetings of the Accident Review Board
are conducted properly.
Directs school system response to issues of traffic
safety and safe access to school.
Prepares an annual division operating budget with such
supporting data as are necessary for clarification to
the superintendent and to the Board of Education.
Assists in the preparation of special reports.
Provides in-service workshops specifically designed
to strengthen staff competencies.
Encourages staff participation.
Keeps abreast of local, state, and national developments
in order to affect changes in operation as necessitated
by current changes in society, business, education,
etc.
Keeps knowledgeable regarding ongoing and new program
development. Reviews recent literature and research
studies and reports. Evaluates findings and suggests
changes or modifications to improve existing programs.
Performs related work as required.
