International Student Admissions Specialist |

| Under direction, is responsible for screening, admission,
and placement of incoming international and foreign
students in MCPS; providing information and support
to incoming international students and their families
in matters related to school admission, and services
available to them; and serving as a resource person
to principals, pupil personnel workers, school counselors,
registrars, and other school staff in matters related
to the admission and placement of international and
foreign students.

| Thorough knowledge of current legislation and MCPS
rules and regulations governing the admission and placement
of international students. Knowledge of different school
systems in the world to evaluate foreign school transcripts
and other documents to ensure proper school and grade
placement. Knowledge of immigration regulations and
practices affecting student enrollment. Knowledge of
MCPS programs and available services in the community
for support of incoming students and their parents.
Fluency in a second language. Ability to work under
stress. Excellent organizational skills to be able to
deal consistently with a variety of issues affecting
the admission, evaluation and placement of international
students. Excellent human relations and communication
skills to relate to families of very diverse linguistic
and cultural backgrounds.

| Minimum of a Bachelor's degree with course work in
counseling, administration and supervision and a study
of other cultures. Master's degree preferred. Training
in federal, state and local practices affecting international
students in MCPS. Experience in handling transcripts
from different educational systems in the world. Experience
in supervising and training other staff members. Some
experience as a classroom teacher desirable. Other combinations
of applicable education, training, and experience which
provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary
to perform effectively in the position may be considered.

Processes applications of foreign and international
students for enrollment in MCPS.
Reviews foreign educational credentials, and evaluates
foreign transcripts.
Reviews immigration status of prospective students.

Verifies students' residency status.
Coordinates the enrollment process with different MCPS
staff and health officials.
Provides students and families with information about
the intake process, enrollment in the receiving schools,
and services available to them.
Responds to school staff requests about determination
of grade placement, evaluation of foreign credentials,
immigration regulations and other concerns related to
the admission and placement of international and foreign
students.
Trains, monitors and supports new ISAO staff responsible
for students admission during the peak enrollment period.
Performs related work as required. |
