Specialist
is responsible for working with the Department of
Enriched and Innovative
Programs, Division of Career and Technology Education
(CTE), and identified schools to support the development
and implementation of academies and signatures programs.
The specialist will assist the CTE director in the
review and analysis of local, state, and national
academy programs
and the collection of applicable data. The specialist
will provide appropriate support and make recommendations
for career academy development and implementation |
Extensive knowledge of the concepts,
functions, strategies, and best practices in the development
and implementation of career academies. Thorough knowledge
of the functions of career and technology education in
the comprehensive high school program and current high
school redesign. Demonstrated ability to design and deliver
presentations related to career academies and other small
learning communities to meet the needs of a wide range
of learners. Demonstrated understanding of the role of
rigor, relevancy, and relationships in the development
and function of career academies and all school-wide
special programs. Experience in developing career education
programs, and working collaboratively with post secondary
institutions and business partnerships. Ability to work
effectively with directors, program coordinators, other
project specialists and school-based staff. Demonstrated
understanding of Tech Prep programs and the development
of articulation agreements wit institutions of high education
to provide seamless transition from high school to post
secondary education. Excellent planning, organizational,
management, oral, and written communication skills.

Master’s degree (or equivalent)
from an accredited college or university. At least
five years of successful secondary teaching experience
in areas related to career and technology education.
At least five years of experience in the development,
implementation, and/or supervision of career academies
or other small learning communities. Successful
completion of Observing and Analyzing Teaching I
(OAT) preferred.
Other combinations of applicable education, training,
and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities,
and skills necessary to perform effectively in the
position may be considered. |

Maryland state certification requirements for an Advanced
Professional Certificate in Secondary Education |

Assists the CTE director in supervising the delivery
of resources, support, and professional development needed
for all coordinators and teachers of career academy and
signature programs and classes to achieve expected outcomes.
Coordinates with staff from post secondary institutions
to assist in the implementation of dual and concurrent
college credit programs for high school students through
Tech Prep.
Provides on-site assistance to school-based career
academy and signature program staff as needed.
Facilitates collaboration with other school districts
related to career academies and other small learning
communities.
Works with a variety of MCPS offices, units, and schools
to gather, analyze, and assemble data and make necessary
recommendations for the MCPS Strategic Plan.
Collects, analyzes, and utilizes data needed to determine
the effectiveness of career academies.
Works with MCPS staff to develop model programs and
related facility planning.
Engages in professional study that provides focus
on the identification and implementation of best practices
related to career academies and other small learning
communities.
Assists the CTE director in presenting at local, state,
and national conferences.
Performs related work as required.
