| Under direction provides coordination of Extended School
Year (ESY) programs and sites for students with disabilities.
Identifies staff for site coordinators and teachers/therapists/instructional
assistants for ESY programs. Provides training to clusters
focusing on ESY eligibility and programs and services.
Works with database to review and analyze data of students
receiving services from all programs for special education
directors, supervisors, and court liaisons. Provides
support to school personnel, parents, and guardians.
Works with Office of School Performance and Accountability,
principals of ESY sites, Human Resources, Adult Education,
Summer School Director, and fiscal specialist.

| Thorough knowledge of the special education process;
knowledge of legislation and due process related to
Special Education, particularly to Extended School Year
Services; ability to work well with parents, teachers,
administration, court liaison; ability to develop/support
programming of services. Excellent oral and written
communication and human relations skills. Organizational
skills required managing demanding and varied responsibilities.
Ability to maintain/develop database system and reports
for data collection and analysis.

| Master’s degree from an accredited college or
university in special education or related field. Minimum
of five years experience as a special educator or related
service provider or work with students with disabilities.
In-service training experience desirable. Other combinations
of applicable education, training, and experience, which
provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary
to perform effectively in the position, may be considered.
Ability to supervise temporary clerical staff working
in ESY office. |
| Meets Maryland State certification requirements for
special education classroom teacher, or related field. |

Works with Office of School Performance and Accountability
and Department of Adult Education and Summer School
to identify schools for extended year programs.
Reviews data from previous year for types of services
provided, staff, intensities of services, numbers of
provided services/students.
Provides training to schools on all levels related
to eligibility and recommendations for programs and
services.
Coordinates/facilitates hiring of staff with Human
Resources and Adult Education offices.
Creates/maintains and analyzes database of students
recommended for services.
Monitors registrations of students.
Orders program materials (consumables).
Works with Special Education Supervisors/Support Team
and Site Coordinator to create rosters for classes.
Works closely with transportation to route buses, make
changes and send out information regarding transportation.
Works with outside/private agencies providing services
to MCPS students.
Coordinates services at outside agencies/programs.
Coordinates health services with Division of Programs
and Services and health department.
Maintains accurate records and prepares special reports
as required.
Supervises temporary-part time staff working in Extended
School Year office.
Reviews, identifies, and coordinates applicants for
schools allocated additional staffing.
Serves as member of the special education support team.
Performs duties as assigned. |
