Project Director for the Judy Center |

| Under direction of the Office of Student and Community
and the Chief of Early Childhood Services Department
of Health and Human Services, the project director will
be responsible for the implementation of the Judy Center
grant. The project director will serve as staff to the
Judy Center Steering Committee; assist with hiring of
employees; provide input in the evaluation of staff;
assist with the development of quarterly and final evaluations
of the Judy Center Grant; develop, coordinate, and implement
in-service programs for early childhood teachers and
aides; and coordinate the training sessions on child
growth and development for parents and volunteers.

| Thorough knowledge of early childhood programs, philosophy
and organization. Knowledge of current research and
trends in early childhood education with special emphasis
on developmentally appropriate culturally competent
curriculum, instructional practices, and assessment.
Ability to work effectively with administrators, principals
and teachers in providing childcare centers and providers
including both public and private agencies, assistance
in the implementation of developmentally appropriate
curriculum, instructional practices, and assessment.
Ability to plan and develop training sessions and collaborate
with other departments and agencies, both public and
private, to design staff development opportunities.
Excellent written and oral communications and human
relations skills.

| Master’s degree (or equivalent) from an accredited
college or university in early childhood education.
Course work in staff development, supervision, curriculum
development and instruction desirable. Three years successful
experience on a preschool level required. Experience
conducting training for a variety of audiences preferred.
Other combinations of applicable education, training,
and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities,
and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position
may be considered. |
| Meets Maryland state certification requirements for
an Advanced Professional Certificate in early childhood
education, guidance, or related field. Must have Maryland
State Board of Examiners License. |
| (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) None |
| (Frequent overtime
or night work required, etc.) May be required to work evenings to meet deadlines
or to attend Board of Education, committee, PTA, Steering
Committee, Collaboration Council, or other meetings. |

Prepares written proposals, component plans, and written
annual progress reports, etc. as required by the superintendent
and/or members of the Board of Education.
Develops and provides curriculum materials for teachers
and instructional assistants which support program initiatives;
develops, coordinates, and implements in-service programs
for the early childhood programs including the childcare
community both public and private; coordinates training
with other MCPS and HHS departments and divisions.
Coordinates with the Office of Human Resources in the
hiring of new employees by reviewing applications of
candidates, screening applicants for the interview process,
formulating interview questions, setting up the interview
schedule, and functioning as staff to the Steering Committee.
Performs a variety of duties to support the Judy Center
grant as needed. |
