Under direction of the director of special education
operations, supports the Individual Disability Education
Act (IDEA), and educational programs for students with
disabilities provided in accordance with federal and
state regulations. Major responsibilities include planning,
training and support for the Special Education Assistive
Technology program (SEAT) project; assisting schools
in special education technology planning and implementation,
assistive technology consideration, and use of technology
to support instruction for students with disabilities;
representing special education at Central Individualized
Education Program (IEP) team meetings, coordinating and
conducting staff development, and providing community
outreach by consulting with parents of students with
disabilities and providing information regarding special
education programs and initiatives to interested government
and community groups. |

Knowledge of current research and trends in curriculum,
assistive technology, assistive technology equipment
and devices, and instructional strategies for special
and general education students ages 0 – 21. Knowledge
of Federal and State Assistive Technology law and practices,
IDEA, COMAR and MCPS policies and regulations. Knowledge
of MCPS computer network structure and policies, including
Technology Modernization program and the software programs
used in the SEAT software packages. Ability to use a
variety of computer and technology skills to support
both school staff and central office staff. Ability to
organize and implement staff development. Ability to
work effectively with teachers, principals, parents and
central office staff to provide students with effective
integrated instruction. Excellent communication and interpersonal
skills. |
Master's degree in special education or related field
with a minimum of 5 years of special education classroom
experience. Experience working with assistive technology
and devices. Coursework, training and experience infusing
technology in curriculum and instruction for students
with disabilities. Demonstrated successful experience
in planning, coordinating and conducting training activities.
Other combinations of applicable education, training,
and experience which provides the knowledge, abilities,
and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position
may be considered. |
| State
of Maryland special education teacher or related field
certification and additional coursework in technology desirable. |
(Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and
frequent climbing.)
Must be able to move materials and
equipment to and from different training sites on a
regular basis. |
(Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.)
Ability
to work extra hours and attend evening and weekend
classes/programs as required.

Plans and coordinates purchase of SEAT software with
Departments of Special Education Services and Operations
and Office of Information and Organizational Systems
staff.
Plans and coordinates SEAT software installation with
staff from the Department of Technology Implementation
and Support.
Plans and delivers technology training on SEAT software,
assistive technology consideration and other software
tools to support special education students.
Plans and delivers technology consultation on SEAT software,
assistive technology consideration and other software
tools to school staff.
Organizes and participates in countywide effort to convert
curricular materials into accessible formats, including
the use of the Kurzweil 3000 text reader.
Serves as member of Central Individualized Education
Program team.
Develops special education module training calendar.
Performs related work as required..
