| This position requires knowledge of all of the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS) to include commitment to students, knowledge of job, professionalism, interpersonal, communication, organization, and problem solving.
Good working knowledge of business English, spelling, arithmetic, and modern office practices, procedures, and equipment; good understanding of MCPS school office operations, and area and central office organization. Ability to make decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures and the ability to apply these to work problems; ability to maintain clerical records and prepare reports; ability to work effectively with students, and administrative and instructional staff, school employees and the central office staff. Skill in the operation of a typewriter and in operating word processing and computer equipment. Good human relations and communications skills.
Completion of the MCPS Typing Test at the required score. |

Graduation from high school, and experience and training in clerical and secretarial work, and office practices and procedures. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered. |

Serves as principal office support to one or more assistant principals;
Maintains supervisor's calendar, using judgment to schedule appointments and commit his/her time;
arranges meetings, reserving space, securing time commitments of participants, takes, transcribes and distributes minutes.
Maintains supervisors' files, often containing confidential material.
Places and screens telephone calls for supervisors
Uses judgment to answer inquiries, referring callers to others as appropriate; relays information and keeps school staff informed of matters.
Receives visitors including parents and other members of the public; answers inquiries and assists visitors with obtaining information and assistance; refers visitors to other staff as appropriate.
Serves as principal clerical assistant to guidance counselors; arranges student-counselor, parent-counselor and parent-teacher conferences;
Discusses college and vocational school file data with students, including college applications, transcripts and histories and processing of same; establishes and maintains guidance folders; collects and records teachers' comments on students records; processes grade sheets and distribute report cards; maintains grade and transcript records.
Performs related work as required.
