| Under direction, performs responsible secretarial support
work for the Board office. Coordinates support provided
to the Board of Education president and members. Work
involves managing correspondence, preparing agendas
and minutes for staff meetings, coordinating public
hearing sign-ups, maintaining records, responding to
visitors and callers and other requests for information,
and related secretarial and office support services.
Work requires superb judgment and tact when dealing
with confidential matters in a highly-visible, demanding
office environment.

| Considerable knowledge of business English, spelling,
general vocabulary, and arithmetic; considerable knowledge
of modern office practices, procedures and equipment;
considerable knowledge of the general organization and
functions of the major units of MCPS. Ability to keep
complex records, assemble and organize data and prepare
reports from such records. Ability to prioritize work
received from multiple sources. Ability to compose memoranda
and letters from general instructions. Ability to carry
out continuing assignments on own initiative. Ability
to use computer-based word processing programs and equipment.
Excellent oral and written communications and human
relations skills.

| Graduation from high school and considerable progressively
responsible experience in the secretarial field, preferably
with MCPS or another school system. Completion of some
related college course work desirable. Other combinations
of applicable education, training and experience which
provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary
to perform effectively in the position may be considered. |
| (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Requires sustained operation of keyboard devices. |
| (Frequent overtime
or night work required, etc.) Attainment of a required score on the MCPS Typing required.
Must be available to work unusual hours, night, weekend,
and overtime as required. |

Provides primary secretarial support for the Board
Office Staff.
Responds to a wide range of inquiries from MCPS offices,
County government personnel and citizens apprising Board
members of significant issues.
Facilitates communication between the Board and MCPS
offices.
Prepares Board subcommittee meeting minutes.
Maintains personnel files for Board Office.
Maintains Board members vitae, photos and general information.
Maintains payroll records.
Handles all incoming and outgoing correspondence including
logging, filing, and tracking of responses, assuring
proper dissemination and retention.
Registers speakers for public hearings in accordance
with Board Office policies and regulations.
Develops invitation log and prepares responses.
Prepares agenda and minutes of internal staff meetings.
Performs related work as required.
