| Under general supervision, performs
technical accounting work in controlling the data input
and related functions of the Financial Information System
(FIS). The work of the class involves responsibility for
maintaining the data integrity of all aspects of the FIS.
The worker supervises and controls the data input to the
school's FIS, other business accounting and reporting
systems sharing data with the FIS, supervises data entry
staff, and controls the interaction of other systems with
the FIS. The worker participates in system designs and
changes and develops and implements new procedures. |
| Considerable knowledge of computerized
financial processing and reporting systems; considerable
knowledge of accounting principles, methods, procedures
and techniques as applied to encumbrance accounting, computerized
accounting systems, and departmental operations and procedures;
considerable knowledge of accounting and data processing
controls and audit documentation standards. Considerable
knowledge of office methods and procedures and familiarity
with the use of standard office equipment; working knowledge
of the use of computer terminals; working knowledge of
governmental bookkeeping practices and procedures. Ability
to oversee and supervise accounting clerical staff. Ability
to analyze problems and devise solutions. Ability to apply
bookkeeping knowledge to repetitive and special assignments;
ability to instruct and oversee the work of other employees;
ability to carry out continuing assignments requiring
the organization and presentation of material and the
making of decisions. Ability to adapt quickly to changes
in work and to meet inflexible deadlines. Good oral and
written communications and human relations skills. |
| Graduation from high school supplemented
by advanced training with courses in computer science,
programming languages, and accounting. Considerable experience
of a responsible nature is required using the MCPS on-line
data base oriented financial information system or a comparable
system. Other combinations of applicable education, training,
and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities,
and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position
may be considered. |

Controls daily update of new data into the FIS and
older system, including interface input from other business
systems; determines daily work activity, assigns and
reviews work, shifts workloads as necessary and determines
priorities. Resolves data entry problems such as over
expenditure of funds, unusual activity, transaction
rejects and system problems; resolves data input problems
arising from system failures and human error.
Monitors accounting controls over daily activity. Ensures
that database account maintenance is continuously updated.
Controls access to the FIS by accounting staff and other
operating units.
Prepares program processing instructions for nightly
processing. Schedules and controls month-end closing
procedures. Develops specifications for technical data
processing staff to make systems design changes; debugging
FIS functions. assists in Prepares written procedures
for unit; trains staff in FIS functions. Edits and corrects
system documentation. Participates in discussions regarding
FIS status reviews, implementation progress and future
plans. Performs related work as required. |
