| Under direction, is responsible
for the day-to-day operations of the central mailroom,
which involves the collecting, processing, and delivering
of incoming and outgoing mail. An employee in this class
supervises and participates in the pick up, receipt and
distribution of U.S., interoffice, and school mail. Work
involves establishing daily procedures and coordinating
delivery services. The employee ensures safe and efficient
delivery of all mail, following economical practices regarding
postal rates. Occasionally required to carry out large
mailings or distributions that require special planning
and coordination. |
| This position requires knowledge of all of the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS) to include commitment to students, knowledge of job, professionalism, interpersonal, communication, organization, and problem solving. Working knowledge of current postal laws, rates, methods, procedures, regulations, and forms pertaining to all classes of mail. Ability to demonstrate a high degree of responsibility for the safe and efficient handling of mail. Ability to remember names and titles of school system administrators and supervisors. Ability to supervise, schedule and assign mailroom and delivery duties to a staff of clerks and drivers. Good human relations and communications skills. |
| Graduation from high school and experience of a responsible nature in the processing of U.S. and intra agency mail. Other combinations of applicable education, training and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered. |
| Possession of a valid Maryland motor vehicle operator's license. Clean driving record and ability to get a CDL within six month probationary period. |

Schedules and coordinates mail processing operations.
Receives incoming mail delivered from U.S. Post Office; sorts and groups U.S. and inter-departmental mail for delivery according to office location.
Separates inter-departmental mail from outgoing mail and sorts it for distribution.
Runs outgoing mail through mailing machine, which seals flaps, stamps envelopes and totals number of pieces processed.
Maintains daily record of postage charges to departments and total charges for postage meters.
Inspects mail to determine that it is sealed or packaged properly and that it has the required amount of postage.
Advises agency personnel on most efficient and economical methods of preparing mail.
Maintains records of insured and registered mail by obtaining signatures from addressees upon delivery.
Trains and supervises one or more assistants in the processing and delivery of mail.
May operate commercial motor vehicle to transport U.S. mail to, or pick U.S. mail up from, U.S. Post Office;
May operate commercial motor vehicle in the receipt and delivery of inter-building mail.
Performs related work as required. |
