| Under direction, coordinates
security of persons and property in assigned school
clusters.
Develops and provides training about security procedures
to staff. Provides consultation to school and central
based
administrators,
security
staff,
and
other MCPS
employees
as needed. Assists with building security reviews
and helps develop recommendations for building modifications
to enhance security.Provides direct security assistance
and advice to school administrators
and school-based security teams. |
| Knowledge of procedures and practices
for ensuring the safety and welfare of others. Knowledge
of behavior management techniques. Demonstrated knowledge
of investigative and security procedures. Knowledge of
school and MCPS policies and procedures regarding school
security and standards of student behavior. Excellent
oral and written communications and human relations skills.
Ability to work with students, teachers, school leadership
staff, governmental and community members,
demonstrating these core competencies described in
the Supporting Services Professional Growth System:
commitment to students, knowledge of job, professionalism,
interpersonal, communication and organization skills,
and problem solving competencies. |
| Associate's degree or equivalent
in criminology, law enforcement, or related fields. Bachelor's
degree desirable. Security training desirable. Five years
law enforcement/security experience in investigation and
safety and security of persons and property required.
Other combinations of applicable education, training,
and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities,
and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position
may be considered. |
| First aid and CPR certification.
Certification by Maryland Police Training Commission desirable.

(Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and
frequent climbing.) Sufficient physical strength to intervene
in fights and physically restrain persons when necessary.
Stamina to spend long periods of time walking and standing.
Ability to patrol MCPS property outdoors in inclement
and extreme weather conditions.

(Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Required
to work flexible hours, including weekends. Required to
occasionally work overtime. Required to wear the designated
security uniform. |

Serves as central point of contact for coordination
of MCPS school and central office security efforts.
Provides recommendations to school principals and directors
on issues of maintaining a safe and secure learning
and working environment.
Performs security assessments of MCPS property and
functions. Represents the school system in criminal
court cases as necessary. Provides support for law enforcement
and department of personnel staff in criminal and administrative
investigations on MCPS property. Responds to central
office security incidents. Provides training for all
security staff. Analyzes security trends through serious
incident reports, making recommendations to director
based on trends. Maintains a close liaison with the
county police district commanders and local police chiefs
in the areas of assigned clusters.
Performs related work as required.
