| Under general direction, develops, implements and maintains, relational and multi-dimensional databases. Administers change controls and monitors production data loads. Works closely with project management, applications development, Unix and Windows administration and data warehouse development team. Develops policies and procedures to ensure the security and integrity of the school district’s enterprise databases. Troubleshoots and resolves database performance, database capacity, replication, tuning, and other distributed data issues. Works with the Unix team and Windows system administrators for the configuration and selection of database server equipment. |
| This position requires knowledge of all of the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS) to include commitment to students, knowledge of job, professionalism, interpersonal, communication, organization, and problem solving.Required technical skills include relational data modeling, database design, structured programming, object design, and data integrity and validation procedures. Knowledge of relational database theory and techniques, operational business systems, and reporting requirements. Knowledge of programming languages such as SQL, PL/SQL, COBOL, and the korn shell. Extensive knowledge of relational databases including Oracle and SQLServer database administrator (DBA) functions for installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and backup/recovery. Knowledge of SQL development tools, Oracle Discoverer, some JavaScript and data modeling tools; Strong quantitative, analytical, communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment. Solid problem solving, negotiations, and organizational skills required. |
| Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with considerable course work in data processing, and specialized training in relational database management systems, including database administration, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and programming in a networked environment. Requires four years experience with database management technologies. Prefer DBA certification and experience with Oracle and SQLServer using UNIX or Windows platform. Other combinations of applicable education, training and experience that provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered. |

Reviews and analyzes database designs, entity relationships and proposed SQL statements.
Assists with server consolidation efforts for both UNIX and Windows systems..
Designs and modifies database architecture and schemas as needed.
Monitors enterprise database systems; plans capacity requirements; specifies deployment systems; optimizes logical and physical database design, performance tuning, tablespaces, files, etc.
Responsible for the design and implementation of a backup/recovery strategy for the enterprise databases, as well as participating in disaster recovery planning.
Prepares test strategies, scripts, and documentation.
Evaluates, installs, and maintains DBMS software and related software products; setting up and maintaining data structures to support product performance and querying activities; and performing problem resolution and support activities.
Installs and upgrades the DBMS and related software.
Determines preferred options and priorities of acceptable criteria, set-up and maintain data structures, and convert logical designs to appropriate physical database structures.
Maintains system security and controls and ensures appropriate processes for user access are followed.
Works with the Unix team and Windows administrators to develop specifications for new and existing database server hardware.
Provides second-level support for developers and users on questions and problems related to database issues and software development tools.
Must be proactive in resolving problems to ensure the uninterrupted access to enterprise database systems to maximize performance and reliability.
Provides technical leadership and mentoring to database administration I and II positions.
Performs related duties as required. |
