| Under general supervision, prepares
jobs for computer processing and maintains processing
controls. The work of the class involves assembling and
setting up jobs for processing by mainframe computer in
accordance with detailed run instructions. Workers check
controls on completed runs to determine if runs have been
processed correctly, and arrange for distribution to users.
Work requires frequent contact with users to explain run
procedures, schedules and to resolve problems. Employees
frequently are exposed to data of a confidential nature
and are responsible for assuring the safe and proper treatment
of such data. Work assignments are changed as required
under a team rotation plan. |
| Some knowledge of the practices and
procedures of computer operations as applied to the preparation
and control of production runs. Some knowledge of application
job setups using UCCI, ROSCOE, and OS cataloged procedures.
Proficiency in the use of Job Control Language is required
within a designated period following appointment. Ability
to understand and apply detailed procedures. Ability to
resolve problems related to the preparation, scheduling
and production of runs. Ability to communicate effectively
with users. Ability and willingness to function on different
tasks/teams as assigned. Good human relations and communications
skills. |
| Graduation from high school preferably
supplemented by completion of specialized training in
computer operations. Some experience in data control,
data processing, or closely related areas that provide
familiarity with the operating systems and standards of
the MCPS mainframe computer center. Other combinations
of applicable education, training, and experience which
provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary
to perform effectively in the position may be considered. |

(Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and
frequent climbing.) Positions operate computer terminals
for sustained periods of time. Daily lifting of boxes
of forms and printouts weighing between 5-50 pounds. Daily
reaching and bending to put materials in bins and boxes. |

(Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Ability
to work overtime required by recurring seasonal/priority
processing cycle work. Work is subject to inflexible deadlines. |

For each specific job, compares control totals, item
counts, and account balances to determine accuracy of
computer job steps; recycles incomplete jobs or errors
for completion or correction. Assembles elements, e.g.,
data, procedures, variables, for next step in job sequence
after assuring previous steps are complete and correct.
Maintains log of JCL information. Files runsheets
and printouts to provide an audit trail. Maintains liaison
within department necessary to clarify procedural instructions
and to establish or simplify control processes. Answers
questions from users, referring the more complex questions
or problems to supervisor. Assists in tape control updating
via terminal entry. Provides special restart/override
input for rerun jobs. Performs related work as required.
