| The
nature of the work requires application of the principals
and practices of architectural design in the preparation
of plans and specifications. Assists the architect for
school facilities in administering the design process for
all capital projects. Works as a facilities designer for
the more complex capital projects and provides leadership
for the design team in the absence of the architect for
school facilities. Attends project meetings in the absence
of the architect for school facilities when additional
architectural input is required. Communicates and works
effectively with the community, architect consultants,
engineers, contractors, and others. |
| This position requires knowledge of all of the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS) to include commitment to students, knowledge of job, professionalism, interpersonal, communication, organization, and problem solving. Has
knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures
of planning, designing, and constructing school facilities.
Has ability to review plans for architectural integrity
for other MCPS project managers/engineers. Has knowledge
of mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering.
Is able to prepare plans and specifications for projects,
evaluate newly constructed school facilities, and work
effectively with the architect, engineers, and others.
Has skills in drafting and AutoCAD. Has excellent written
and oral communication and human relations skills. Is able
to work with students, teachers and other staff demonstrating
the core competencies described in the Supporting Services
Professional Growth System: commitment to students, knowledge
of job, professionalism, interpersonal communication and
organization skills, and problem solving competencies. |
Bachelor’s
degree in architecture from an accredited college or university
and considerable experience in architectural design, preferably
in designing school facilities. Ten years of progressively
responsible experience preferred.
Other combinations of applicable education, training, and
experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and
skills necessary to perform effectively in the position
may be considered

| Possession of a Maryland architectural license (or
ability to obtain within one year of appointment). |
| (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Ability to inspect roofs and buildings. |
| (Frequent overtime
or night work required, etc.) Ability to work overtime and to respond to occasional
urgent work requirements. Ability to travel on regular
and unscheduled basis to construction sites. |

Works as assistant to the architect for school facilities
in administering the design process for all capital
projects.
Maintains the process and format for the feasibility
studies and schematic designs.
Participates in the architectural/engineering selection
process.
Assists other project managers with state submittals
and responses.
Represents the architect for school facilities in
product presentation meetings, OSTA meetings, and other
capital project meetings where architectural/supervisory
input is required.
Provides architectural review comments for projects
where the other project manager’s field of expertise
is engineering rather than architecture.
Maintains school facility plans and specifications
file.
Maintains schedule of capital projects from Ed. Spec.
to completion.
Meets with school and community representatives.
Reviews capital project plans and specifications.
Evaluates newly constructed school facilities including
the project architect and contractor.
Updates and maintains school facility guideline specifications
and standards.
Assists other project managers with day-to-day project
management questions and the MCPS construction process.
Provides leadership to the design team in the absence
of the architect for school facilities.
Serves as facilities designer for more complex capital
projects.
Performs related work as required
