| Under direction, performs technical
electronic servicing and administrative work. The work
of the class involves evaluating the condition and serviceability
of audio visual and communications lab equipment for budget
planning purposes. The employee conducts onsite inspections
and checks of equipment in schools as part of a rotational
cycle, completes evaluation reports and recommends purchase
and replacement of equipment as required. The position
is also responsible for warranty repairs to equipment,
assists in preparing the A/V equipment bid and ensures
the maintenance of vehicles assigned to the unit. |
Considerable knowledge of the construction,
operation and maintenance of audio visual and related
equipment used in schools. Ability to evaluate audio visual
and related equipment for condition and serviceability,
and to determine repair costs in comparison to replacement
costs; ability to troubleshoot and repair malfunctions;
ability to keep accurate records.
Skill in using the tools, test equipment and materials
of the audio visual equipment field. Good human relations
and communication skills. |
| Graduation from high school, including
or supplemented by courses in electronics and electrical
theory and repair, and experience in the evaluation, operation,
maintenance, and repair of instructional equipment; experience
and/or completion of courses in use and repair of microcomputer
and attached equipment. Other combinations of applicable
education, training, and experience which provide the
knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform
effectively in the position may be considered. |
| Possession of a valid Maryland driver's
license. |

(Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and
frequent climbing.) Ability to lift and move heavy objects. |

Evaluates, for purposes of repair or replacement, the
condition of electronic and mechanical instructional
equipment such as movie and slide projectors, radios,
television receivers, transcription players, audio and
video recorders, microcomputers and related equipment;
assists in making replacement recommendations. Processes
and follows up on warranty repairs to equipment. Assists
school media staffs in planning requests for portable
classrooms and surplus equipment. Assists in preparing
audio visual equipment bid requests. Responds to requests
regarding equipment problems. Maintains inventory of
surplus and portable equipment. Assists in planning
A/V equipment requirements for events. Tapes meetings
and special education hearings. Maintains service manuals.
Performs related work as required.
