| Under direction, performs skilled
work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of
a variety of electrical systems and equipment. Work involves
responsibility for performing a variety of electrical
tasks in accordance with standard practices of the electrical
trade. Assignments are made either orally or through
written work orders and may be accompanied by diagrams
or blueprints. Work is often performed independently
subject to inspection for compliance with instructions
and conformity with accepted safety standards. Supervision
may be exercised over one or more helpers. |
| Considerable knowledge of standard
methods, materials, and tools of the electrical trade;
considerable knowledge of a wide variety of electrical
fixtures and equipment common to school use; working
knowledge of local and national electrical codes. Ability
to complete work in a safe and efficient manner. Ability
to supervise helpers. Ability to locate and adjust defects
in electrical systems and equipment; ability to follow
electrical diagrams in the installation or maintenance
of electrical equipment systems. Skill in the use and
care of hand and power tools of the trade. Completion
of the MCPS Electrical Test at the required score. |
| Completion of the ninth school
grade and experience in the performance of skilled work
in the installation, maintenance, and repair of a variety
of electrical equipment and high amperage electrical
systems, or completion of a recognized apprenticeship
in the trade. Other combinations of applicable education,
training, and experience which provide the knowledge,
abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively
in the position may be considered. |
| Possession
of a valid Maryland noncommercial class C driver's license,
or equivalent. |

(Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and
frequent climbing.) Ability to lift items weighing
up to 100 pounds, work from ladders or scaffolding,
work in inclement weather and other adverse conditions. |
|
(Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Ability
to respond to emergency calls at any time and to work
occasional overtime. |
|
Makes periodic inspections and emergency calls at
schools and office buildings to determine if power
and lights are in operating condition; repairs or replaces
defective switches, outlets, and incandescent and fluorescent
light fixtures; inspects and repairs defective wiring;
repairs kitchen equipment, such as electric ranges,
sterilizers, hot water heaters, and dishwashers; inspects
and repairs boiler room electrical equipment, such
as switches, alternators, linestarters, and remote
controls; repairs or replaces water pump and sewer
pump controls.Installs control switches and lighting fixtures, outlets,
window air-conditioning units, and floodlight systems;
installs circuits for new equipment, and complete wiring
for renovated offices and rooms; inspects, adjusts,
and maintains a variety of electrical motors (used
in the heating, ventilating, and water-systems) Performs
related work as required.
